Weekly Guest Blog - Lindsay Nott - My C5 Life

This week, we are joined on the blog by our inspiring guest Lindsay Nott from My C5 Life.

A C5 spinal cord injury, acquired on the last day of high school, hasn’t stopped Lindsay from making the most out of this beautiful life.  Referring to himself as an ‘explorer’ due to his love for travel – Lindsay, who maintains an infectious and positive outlook on life – sees his journey as being an adventure.

It was during once such adventure – a holiday to New York – where it was suggested by family and peers, that Lindsay use his explorations as a way to support others on a similar journey – and so the blog-style website My C5 Life was born. Visit: http://myc5life.com

After just one year, the site has become increasingly popular, with many subscribers and followers, which in turn, has led to an increase in Lindsay being approached for speaking engagements and other opportunities for collaboration (something he has done for over 25 years), particularly as a volunteer and peer support mentor for the newly injured and their families.

In his guest blog for The Dignity Project, Lindsay discusses hot topics, including enhancing life through technology, employment, travel and public transport issues. Dignity to Lindsay ‘is simply being included! Whether this is employment, travel or leisure – dignity to me is not being excluded or separated from my family, friends or peers. Dignity is being able to function as independently as possible – it is also being able to maintain my confidentiality, particularly in my personal life – and the ability to go about living, and doing what I want to do, without being hindered or having obstacles block my path. Dignity is inclusion, access and accessible design. It is about taking time for others. To be respectful, mindful and helpful, to go the extra mile to give someone a hand… it is as simple as holding the door for someone. Put yourself in another person’s shoes and treat others the way you would like to be treated’.
