Kristin Tynan Publishes New Research on Pain

The Hopkins Centre congratulates Bright Spark grant recipient Kristin Tynan and the Hopkins team on the recent publication of their research in the Journal of Pharmacy Practice and Research for the paper “The impact of referral wait times on high-risk medication usage in patients with chronic pain: a tertiary pain clinic retrospective chart audit”.

The study explores how prolonged wait times for specialist pain clinic appointments affect the use of high-risk medications, particularly opioids, gabapentinoids, and benzodiazepines. It also examines the prevalence of concurrent prescribing of these medications to better inform triage practices and reduce harm among patients with chronic pain.

This publication follows Kristin’s presentation of her findings at the 2025 Australian Pain Society’s 45th Annual Scientific Meeting, where her work was well received by clinicians and researchers. Her research continues to contribute to improving patient experiences and outcomes in pain and medication management, aligning strongly with The Hopkins Centre’s focus on person-centred rehabilitation and innovation in care.
