Researchers from The Hopkins Centre Showcase VR Innovation at A Culture of Care: Multicultural Health Symposium 2026

Researchers Dr Michael Norwood and Michelle Porter from The Hopkins Centre were proud participants at the A Culture of Care: Multicultural Health Symposium, held at Brisbane Technology Park from 16–17 March 2026. The two-day event, hosted by Metro South Health, is a vibrant forum dedicated to advancing equity, innovation, and culturally responsive healthcare for diverse communities across Queensland and beyond.

The symposium brought together healthcare professionals, policymakers, community leaders, and researchers to share best practices, engage in collaborative discussions, and explore ways to enhance health outcomes for culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with inspiring keynotes, real-world case studies, and interactive workshops designed to foster innovation that reflects and respects the needs of multicultural communities.

A highlight of the symposium for The Hopkins Centre team was the booth featuring cutting-edge virtual reality (VR) technology developed as part of the Connection Culture Project. Both Michelle Porter and Dr Michael Norwood were excited to demonstrate this immersive technology, which enables users to virtually explore diverse locations around the world. The experience sparked curiosity and engagement from a wide range of attendees — from frontline health workers to community advocates — who were eager to try the VR simulations and learn how they can deepen cultural understanding and connection in healthcare contexts.

The Hopkins Centre extends its thanks to the organisers of A Culture of Care for providing a platform that celebrates diversity, encourages meaningful dialogue, and drives positive change in multicultural health.
