National Pain Week 2026: Spotlight on the Metro South Pain Rehabilitation Centre and Collaborative Pain Research

National Pain Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the impact of persistent pain and highlight the services, research and innovations helping people live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

One such service is the Metro South Pain Rehabilitation Centre, which supports people living with chronic pain to improve their function and quality of life through evidence-based, multidisciplinary rehabilitation. Rather than focusing solely on medication or surgery, the Centre empowers people with education, personalised care and practical self-management strategies that help them participate more fully in everyday life.

The Centre brings together specialist clinicians from across medicine, nursing, psychology, physiotherapy and occupational therapy to deliver personalised rehabilitation programs that recognise the complex physical, psychological and social impacts of persistent pain.

The Hopkins Centre is proud to work alongside the Metro South Pain Rehabilitation Centre through collaborative research that aims to improve pain management and rehabilitation outcomes. By partnering with clinicians, researchers and people with lived experience, Hopkins researchers are helping generate new knowledge that informs more effective, person-centred models of care and supports people living with persistent pain to achieve the outcomes that matter most to them.

This National Pain Week, we acknowledge the important role of multidisciplinary pain rehabilitation and celebrate the clinicians, researchers and consumers working together to improve the lives of people living with persistent pain.

People living within the Metro South Health catchment who are experiencing persistent pain may be eligible for referral to the Metro South Pain Rehabilitation Centre through their GP.
