Senior Dietitian, Metro South Health

Soraya is a Senior Clinical Dietitian, currently based at the Jasmine Unit, an extended brain injury rehabilitation unit in Wynnum and the PAH Kidney services. She has previously worked at several public and private hospitals across Brisbane (Greenslopes, the Wesley, Logan Hospital) and in the community. Soraya's experience has ranged across both acute and subacute areas including acquired brain injury, kidney services and transplant, other chronic diseases, oncology, and surgical. She completed my undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Nutrition and Exercise Sciences and her Masters of Dietetics at The University of Queensland, St Lucia.

Research Expertise:

  • 0.1FTE senior kidney research dietitian backfill for 18 months. Involved research assistance in the SLOW-CKD, Telekinesis, and Healthy Eating in Haemodialysis studies. Tasks included research risk assessment and management plans, participant screening, recruitment, data collection, REDCap data entry and management, qualitative interviews with study participants, visual abstract/poster infographic design, manuscript review and co-authorship.
  • Using effective nutritional screening and referral processes for adults undergoing peritoneal dialysis, a clinical redesign project. Lead investigator. Relevant tasks: collation/analysis of occasions of service data, patient satisfaction, nursing perception and dietetic service benchmarking data, ethics submission approved. Published abstract & oral presentation, 2021 Dietitians Australia National conference.
  • Research Project: Nutritional Status Following COVID-19 in Kidney Disease Patients. Lead investigator, completed within clinical capacity. Relevant tasks: conducted chart reviews and dietetic assessments using Subjective Global Assessment to identify malnutrition, data analysis, oral finalist PAH symposium 2022.
