Dr Katie Barrett, Advanced Clinical Psychologist/Psychology Team Lead SIU, Metro South Health
Katie is a clinical psychologist, currently based in the Queensland Spinal Injuries Unit as psychology team lead. Prior to this, Katie has worked in both Ireland and Australia as a clinical psychologist in forensic, community mental health and clinical health settings (including psychooncology, renal services, and brain and spinal cord rehabilitation). She completed her undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Galway (UG), my masters in Health Psychology also at UG, and PhD in Clinical Psychology in University College Dublin, supervised by Professor Louise McHugh.
Katie is predominantly involved in research relating to Relational Frame Theory (RFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Contextual Behavioural Science (CBS) and clinical health psychology more broadly. Her past research projects have focused on developing a model of pragmatic verbal analysis, designing and delivering online psychological interventions for social and health care workers, and examining the psychometric properties of ACT-based measures and validation of psychometric tools. Katie has previously worked as a research assistant in the areas of chronic pain and psychooncology, and have published a number of peer-reviewed articles in the areas of ACT, CBS and clinical health psychology. Since 2021 she has additionally served on the editorial board for the Journal of Contextual Behavioral Science (JCBS).
