Hopkins Hour Event Resources: 'Exploring the experience of fatigue for people with fatigue and their caregivers'

Thank you to everyone who joined the virtual Hopkins Hour live event on 18 February 2021 about 'Exploring the experience of fatigue for people with fatigue and their caregivers'.

Hosted by the Therapeutic Interventions and Practices​​ Research Stream and presented by Janelle Griffin, an Advanced Clinician and Team Leader Occupational Therapist, from the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit; Rebecca Seeney, Occupational Therapist, from the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Services, and Kerrin Watter, Clinical Lead, Speech Pathologist,  Acquired Brain Injury Transitional Rehabilitation Service at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

For Fatigue is one of the most common symptoms reported after a traumatic brain injury (TBI). It is described as “a felt sense of disproportionate exertion and associated mental or physical exhaustion and inability to perform”. The impact of post-TBI fatigue extends beyond the individual to have a secondary impact on caregivers yet little is written about this in the literature. Clinicians have little guidance on how best to support people manage their fatigue, particularly the caregivers.

In this session, Janelle presented an outline of the PA Hospital based study that is exploring the experience of fatigue for people with a TBI and their caregivers. Janelle included a discussion of findings to date and interpretations generated including how these are being translated and integrated into everyday clinical practice.
